The amino acid L-CARNITINE helps transport fat into muscles. It is necessary for the transport of fat into muscle cells to produce energy. The amount of L-CARNITINE in muscles determines the exercise capacity of muscles. When the body uses fats as energy for muscle contractions, glycogen is spared and lactic acid accumulation is delayed.
L-CARNITINE reduces lactic acid formation, which delays muscle fatigue and improves performance.
During energy production, L-CARNITINE plays an essential role in transporting fatty acids into mitachondria (cell furnaces). Thus, it helps to delay fatigue and prevent tying up by inhibiting the formation of lactic acid in muscles. During exercise, horses consume large quantities of L-CARNITINE, so their dietary requirements are not often met. Enhancing energy supply, using fatty acids as an energy source, decreasing lactate buildup, and enhancing maximum work output are all benefits of supplementing with L-CARNITINE.
Heart health depends on this amino acid. Sprint and endurance performance are both improved by supplementing with L-CARNITINE. Glycogen is rapidly depleted in horses that perform well, but fats are rarely depleted. Using fat as an energy source helps reduce lactic acid buildup in muscles, preventing fatigue and possible Tying Up, as well as enabling muscles to work harder and longer.
