Fleas and ticks pose significant health risks to dogs and families alike. Fleas can cause severe itching, allergic dermatitis, anaemia (especially in puppies), and transmit tapeworms. Ticks carry pathogens responsible for Lyme disease, ehrlichiosis, and anaplasmosis. Regular flea and tick prevention reduces the likelihood of infestations and the spread of vector-borne illnesses, making it an essential component of year-round canine care. Even indoor dogs can be affected—fleas can hitch a ride on clothing or other pets, and ticks can enter homes on wildlife or long grass brought indoors.
We stock top brands renowned for efficacy and ease of use, including Bravecto, NexGard, Simparica, Simparica Trio, and Advocate. Bravecto® tablets or topical applications provide up to 12 weeks of continuous protection against fleas and ticks. NexGard® and Simparica® are monthly chewables that rapidly kill fleas and ticks within 8 hours of administration. Simparica Trio® combines flea and tick control with heartworm and worm prevention, offering broader parasite defence in a single monthly chew. Advocate® spot-on treatment repels and kills fleas, lice, and ticks, with the added benefit of controlling heartworm and intestinal worms. Each product is vet-recommended, easy to administer, and available without a prescription, so you can start protection promptly.
Select a product based on your dog's age, weight, lifestyle, and sensitivity. Puppies (from 8 weeks) can generally start on chewables like NexGard® and Simparica®, while topical options like Bravecto® Spot-On are suitable for dogs over 2kg. Consider your region's tick species and seasonal peaks—Bravecto®'s 12-week duration is ideal for areas with extended tick activity. For multi-parasite coverage, Simparica Trio® addresses fleas, ticks, heartworm, and intestinal worms in one. If your dog has skin sensitivities, Advocate®'s gentle spot-on formulation may be preferable. Always read label instructions carefully and consult your veterinarian if your dog has underlying health conditions or is pregnant or lactating.
Administer oral chews with food to reduce the risk of gastrointestinal upset and ensure proper absorption. For topical treatments, apply directly to the skin on the back of the neck, between the shoulder blades—avoid contact with water for at least 48 hours post-application to allow full efficacy. Monitor your dog for signs of skin irritation (redness, scratching) after topical application; discontinue use if adverse reactions occur and consult your vet. Maintain a monthly schedule—mark dates in a calendar or set reminders—to avoid lapses in protection. Inspect your dog's coat weekly for any signs of fleas (small black “flea dirt” or live fleas) or ticks, and remove ticks promptly with a proper tick removal tool to reduce disease transmission risk.
