NexGard contains afoxolaner, an isoxazoline compound that provides monthly oral protection against fleas and ticks. As a palatable, beef-flavoured chew, NexGard begins killing fleas within 8 hours and ticks within 12 hours of administration. Veterinarian-recommended for dogs over 8 weeks of age (weighing at least 2 kg), NexGard offers rapid and sustained efficacy against common tick species—such as Ixodes scapularis, Rhipicephalus sanguineus, and Dermacentor variabilis—reducing the risk of tick-borne diseases.
Fast-acting kill: Fleas are eliminated within 8 hours; ticks within 12 hours, providing prompt relief from bites. Once-monthly convenience: One chewable tablet provides 30 days of continuous protection, simplifying parasite control regimens. Safe for puppies: Approved for puppies from 8 weeks of age, enabling early introduction of preventative care. Water-resistant advantage: Oral administration ensures efficacy is unaffected by swimming or bathing, unlike topical treatments.
Choose the appropriate NexGard chew based on body weight:
NexGard is generally well tolerated; side effects may include vomiting, diarrhoea, lethargy, and decreased appetite—typically mild and transient. Use with caution in dogs with a history of seizures; isoxazolines may lower the seizure threshold in predisposed breeds. Do not use in puppies younger than 8 weeks or weighing less than 2 kg. Pregnant and lactating bitches can be treated, but consult your veterinarian first. Avoid administering other isoxazoline products concurrently to prevent additive toxicity. In rare cases, dogs with MDR1 gene mutations may experience adverse reactions; consult your veterinarian for genetic testing if unsure. Keep NexGard chews out of reach of children and other animals. In case of accidental overdose, contact a veterinarian promptly.
