Canimax

Product Overview

Canimax contains milbemycin oxime, an effective broad-spectrum heartworm preventative and intestinal wormer. Administered monthly, Canimax prevents heartworm disease (Dirofilaria immitis) by killing larvae, and treats and controls roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms. Canimax is suitable for puppies from 6 weeks of age and weighing at least 1 kg. Its small tablet size and minimal taste help ensure easy administration, while its safety profile makes it ideal for routine canine parasite control.

Key Benefits

Heartworm prevention: Monthly dosing prevents heartworm maturation, protecting dogs from life-threatening disease. Broad-spectrum worm control: Eliminates and prevents roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms—common intestinal parasites. Safe for young puppies: Approved for use from 6 weeks of age, aiding early parasite prevention. Convenient dosing: One small chewable tablet per month based on weight, simplifying parasite control routines.

Usage & Dosage

Select the correct Canimax tablet according to your dog's weight:

  • Canimax Small Dog (1 – 5 kg): One 1 mg tablet monthly.
  • Canimax Medium Dog (5 – 15 kg): One 5 mg tablet monthly.
  • Canimax Large Dog (15 – 25 kg): One 10 mg tablet monthly.
  • Canimax Extra Large Dog (> 25 kg): One 20 mg tablet monthly (or as directed by your veterinarian).
Administer Canimax with food to enhance absorption and reduce the risk of gastrointestinal upset. If a dose is missed by less than five days, administer as soon as possible and continue monthly schedule. If more than five days late, test for heartworm before administering and reinitiate prevention under veterinary guidance. Store tablets at room temperature in a dry place.

Safety & Considerations

Canimax is well tolerated; mild gastrointestinal signs—such as vomiting or diarrhoea—may occur occasionally. Use with caution in dogs with pre-existing seizure disorders, as milbemycin oxime can lower the seizure threshold in predisposed breeds. Do not use in dogs that are heartworm positive—treat with appropriate adulticide prior to starting Canimax. Always perform an annual heartworm test before initiating or continuing Canimax. Keep medication out of reach of children and other pets. Consult your veterinarian if your dog exhibits adverse reactions or if you have any concerns about long-term use.

Frequently asked questions

When should I start Canimax for puppies?
Begin Canimax at 6 weeks of age, provided the puppy weighs at least 1 kg. Administer monthly as part of a comprehensive parasite control plan.
Is Canimax effective against tapeworms?
No—Canimax does not treat tapeworms. Use a praziquantel-based wormer (e.g., Cazitel) for tapeworm control.
Can I give Canimax and flea treatments together?
Yes—Canimax can be used concurrently with topical or oral flea and tick preventatives. Always follow label instructions for each product.
What if I miss a dose by over a week?
Do not administer immediately. Test your dog for heartworm infection first, then restart Canimax under veterinary supervision.
Can dogs with medical conditions use Canimax?
Consult your veterinarian. Dogs with seizure history or existing heartworm infection require alternative management strategies.
