Fidos

Brand Overview

Fidos is a once-monthly chewable tablet combining spinosad (for flea control) with milbemycin oxime (for heartworm and intestinal worm prevention). As a dual-action product, Fidos kills fleas rapidly and provides broad-spectrum protection against heartworm, roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms. Approved for dogs from 8 weeks of age (weighing at least 2 kg), Fidos simplifies parasite prevention by consolidating multiple treatments into one palatable chewable tablet designed to appeal even to finicky eaters.

Key Benefits

Rapid flea kill: Spinosad begins killing adult fleas within 30 minutes, eliminating > 90 percent within 4 hours and providing 30 days of protection. Comprehensive parasite coverage: Milbemycin oxime prevents heartworm disease and combats intestinal worms (roundworms, hookworms, whipworms). Once-monthly dosing: One chewable tablet covers multiple parasites, reducing the complexity of prevention schedules. Highly palatable: Beef-flavoured chew encourages voluntary ingestion, facilitating compliance without forcing medication.

Usage & Dosage

Select the correct Fidos chew based on body weight:

  • Fidos 70 mg/2 mg (2 – 4 kg): One chew monthly.
  • Fidos 175 mg/5 mg (4 – 9 kg): One chew monthly.
  • Fidos 350 mg/10 mg (9 – 18 kg): One chew monthly.
  • Fidos 700 mg/20 mg (18 – 36 kg): One chew monthly.
  • Fidos 1400 mg/40 mg (36 – 72 kg): One chew monthly.
Administer with or without food. If vomiting occurs within one hour of administration, re-dose with another full chew. If after one hour, no re-dose is necessary—resume the regular monthly schedule. Ensure your dog has tested negative for heartworm within the past year before initiating Fidos. Do not administer more frequently than every 30 days. Store chews in a cool, dry place away from sunlight.

Safety & Considerations

Fidos is generally well tolerated; common side effects include mild gastrointestinal upset (vomiting, diarrhoea), lethargy, and decreased appetite—typically resolving within 24 hours. Use with caution in dogs with a history of seizures, as spinosad may lower the seizure threshold in predisposed breeds. Do not use Fidos in puppies under 8 weeks or weighing less than 2 kg. Pregnant or lactating dogs should only receive Fidos under veterinary supervision. Keep chews inaccessible to children and other pets. If adverse reactions occur or if you suspect an overdose, contact your veterinarian immediately.
