Interceptor Spectrum

Product Overview

Interceptor Spectrum is a once-monthly chewable tablet combining milbemycin oxime and praziquantel to provide broad-spectrum prevention of heartworm disease and control of gastrointestinal nematodes (roundworms, hookworms, whipworms) and tapeworms. Approved for puppies from 6 weeks of age (weighing at least 1 kg), Interceptor Spectrum offers comprehensive protection in a single palatable chew. Veterinarians often recommend it as part of multi-parasite management, especially in areas where both heartworm and tapeworm are prevalent.

Key Benefits

Heartworm prevention: Milbemycin oxime kills heartworm larvae before they mature, safeguarding dogs from potentially fatal cardiopulmonary disease. Broad nematode coverage: Controls roundworms (Toxocara canis), hookworms (Ancylostoma caninum), and whipworms (Trichuris vulpis). Tapeworm control: Praziquantel effectively eliminates Dipylidium caninum and Taenia species. Once-monthly convenience: Single chewable tablet addresses multiple internal parasites, simplifying routine preventive care.

Usage & Dosage

Administer Interceptor Spectrum at a dose of 0.5 mg/kg milbemycin oxime and 5 mg/kg praziquantel:

  • Interceptor Spectrum 2 mg/10 mg (1 – 5 kg): One chew monthly.
  • Interceptor Spectrum 5 mg/25 mg (5 – 10 kg): One chew monthly.
  • Interceptor Spectrum 12.5 mg/62.5 mg (10 – 25 kg): One chew monthly.
  • Interceptor Spectrum 25 mg/125 mg (25 – 50 kg): One chew monthly.
  • Interceptor Spectrum 50 mg/250 mg (50 – 100 kg): One chew monthly.
Administer with or without food. If a dose is missed by less than one week, give as soon as possible and resume monthly schedule. If more than one week late, perform a heartworm test before reinitiating. Store chews at room temperature in a dry place. Discard any unused portion of an opened blister within 28 days.

Safety & Considerations

Interceptor Spectrum is well tolerated; mild gastrointestinal signs—such as vomiting, diarrhoea, or decreased appetite—may occur. Rarely, hypersensitivity reactions like pruritus or facial swelling can occur; discontinue and seek veterinary attention if observed. Use with caution in dogs with seizure histories, as milbemycin oxime may lower the seizure threshold. Not for use in dogs weighing less than 1 kg or puppies under 6 weeks. Pregnant and lactating bitches can be treated, but consult your veterinarian first. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Do not use in heartworm-positive dogs—treat existing infections before starting Interceptor Spectrum.
