Revolution (selamectin) is a monthly topical solution that provides broad-spectrum protection against fleas, heartworm, ear mites, sarcoptic mange, and certain tick species. Applied to the skin at the base of the neck, Revolution is absorbed systemically and circulates through cutaneous oils to reach parasites. Suitable for dogs and puppies from six weeks of age (weighing at least 2.6 kg), Revolution's multi-faceted efficacy makes it a cornerstone of preventive care, particularly in regions with high flea, tick, or mite prevalence.
Flea control: Kills adult fleas and prevents flea eggs from maturing, breaking the flea lifecycle. Heartworm prevention: Eliminates immature heartworm larvae (Dirofilaria immitis) before maturation. Ear mite treatment: Controls Otodectes cynotis infestations, reducing ear irritation and secondary infections. Sarcoptic mange control: Treats Sarcoptes scabiei infestations, alleviating severe pruritus and skin damage. Tick protection: Repels and kills certain tick species (e.g., Dermacentor variabilis) to lower tick-borne disease risks.
Apply Revolution topically once every 30 days. Select the correct pipette based on body weight:
Revolution is generally well tolerated; possible side effects include transient hair loss or irritation at the application site, vomiting, diarrhoea, lethargy, and, rarely, neurologic signs such as tremors or seizures in MDR1-sensitive breeds (e.g., Collies). Use caution in dogs with a history of seizures; genetic testing for MDR1 mutation is recommended in at-risk breeds. Do not use on puppies under six weeks or weighing less than 2.6 kg. Pregnant and lactating bitches can be treated under veterinary guidance. Avoid contact with the application site until it is dry—ensure handlers wash their hands thoroughly after application. In case of accidental ingestion or adverse reactions, contact a veterinarian promptly.
