Sentinel Spectrum

Overview

Sentinel Spectrum is a monthly chewable tablet combining milbemycin oxime, lufenuron, and praziquantel to protect dogs from heartworm, intestinal worms, and fleas. Milbemycin oxime prevents heartworm and treats roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms. Lufenuron inhibits flea egg development, breaking the flea lifecycle. Praziquantel eliminates tapeworms. Approved for puppies from six weeks of age (weighing at least 1 kg), Sentinel Spectrum provides comprehensive protection in one palatable chewable tablet.

Key Benefits

Heartworm prevention: Milbemycin oxime kills immature heartworm larvae, preventing adult worm infection. Flea control: Lufenuron stops flea eggs from hatching and developing, reducing environmental infestation. Tapeworm control: Praziquantel eliminates Dipylidium caninum and Taenia spp. Broad nematode coverage: Treats roundworms (Toxocara canis), hookworms (Ancylostoma caninum), and whipworms (Trichuris vulpis). Once-monthly convenience: One chew addresses multiple parasite threats, simplifying preventive care.

Usage & Dosage

Administer Sentinel Spectrum based on body weight:

  • 1 – 5 kg: One 5 mg / 135 mg / 50 mg chew monthly (milbemycin / lufenuron / praziquantel).
  • 5 – 10 kg: One 10 mg / 270 mg / 100 mg chew monthly.
  • 10 – 25 kg: One 25 mg / 675 mg / 250 mg chew monthly.
  • 25 – 50 kg: One 50 mg / 1350 mg / 500 mg chew monthly.
  • > 50 kg: Combine chews to reach the correct total dose based on weight.
Administer with food to enhance absorption and reduce gastrointestinal upset. If a chew is vomited within one hour, administer a replacement. Continue monthly dosing to maintain continuous protection. Store chews at room temperature in a dry environment away from sunlight.

Safety & Considerations

Sentinel Spectrum is generally well tolerated; mild side effects—such as vomiting, diarrhoea, or lethargy—are uncommon and transient. Use caution in dogs with a history of seizures, as milbemycin oxime may lower the seizure threshold. Do not use in dogs under 1 kg or puppies younger than six weeks. Pregnant and lactating bitches can be treated under veterinary guidance. Avoid using other lufenuron or milbemycin-containing products concurrently. Keep chews out of reach of children and pets. If an overdose or severe adverse reaction occurs, seek veterinary assistance immediately. Annual heartworm testing is recommended before starting or continuing Sentinel Spectrum.

Frequently asked questions

How quickly does Sentinel Spectrum prevent heartworm?
Milbemycin oxime kills heartworm larvae within 24 hours; monthly dosing maintains consistent protection.
Does Sentinel Spectrum kill adult fleas?
No—lufenuron stops flea eggs from hatching but does not kill adult fleas. Use a fast-acting flea adulticide (e.g., NexGard) for immediate relief.
Can I give Sentinel Spectrum with food?
Yes—administering with food improves absorption and reduces gastrointestinal upset.
What if my dog vomits the tablet?
If vomiting occurs within one hour, administer a replacement chew. If after one hour, no replacement is required—resume monthly dosing.
Is Sentinel Spectrum safe for puppies?
Yes—approved for puppies from six weeks of age and weighing at least 1 kg.
